Martin Luther King Day Closures in Brooklyn

A guide to holiday service changes.

Today we honor the —a man who transformed our nation through non-violent resistance to racial, social and economic inequality.

It is also a day in which many public and private institutions mark the occasion with reduced hours, service changes and closures.

Here is a shortlist of changes this MLK Day in Brooklyn:

Post offices. All branches of the U.S. Postal Service are closed Monday. There will be no mail delivery.

MTA Subway and Buses. Service will run on a weekday schedule.

Long Island Rail Road. Service will run on a weekend schedule. Off peak fares apply.

Garbage/Recycling. There will be no garbage pickup today. If Monday is your garbage pickup day, put your trash out after 4 p.m. If Monday is your day for recycling, wait until next week.

Libraries. All branches of the Brooklyn Public Library, including the Central Library, will be closed.

City offices, including the state Dept. of Motor Vehicles. Closed today.

Parking. Alternate side parking rules are suspended. Parking meters must still be paid.
