Local Pols Call Upon Cuomo To Restructure Downstate, Save LICH

In an open letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday, April 15, local politicians including Sen. Daniel Squadron, Assemblywoman Joan Millman, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Rep. Nydia Velazquez, Councilmembers Steven Levin and Brad Lander, among others, requested that "a working group that includes federal, state, and city elected officials representing University Hospital and Long Island College Hospital" be created to review SUNY Downstate's "sustainability plan before it is submitted to DOH and DOB for approval."

The group also requested time with the Governor to discuss the restructuring of Downstate before a determination might be made, as it is "a keystone healthcare provider in New York City."

A complete copy of the open letter is attached.

What do you think readers? Has Cuomo shown support thus far for LICH staff or SUNY Downstate heads?
