LICH, Interfaith Supporters Will March To Borough Hall

Nurses, doctors and community members will gather at 8:30 a.m. on Friday in Cobble Hill.

Long Island College Hospital is now officially on life support.

As a special meeting among SUNY Downstate Boardmembers is about to begin in Manhattan, many news outlets have already called the medical center's time of death, citing President John William's commitment to selling the building. But supporters of the Cobble Hill institution are still moving forward with plans to hold a rally at Borough Hall on Friday.

In an act of unity, activists and employees of both LICH and Interfaith Medical Center plan to gather outside of the hospital at 8:30am and march to Brooklyn Borough Hall Plaza, 209 Joralemon Street, where a press conference will be held at 9:30am. A scheduled 10:30am public hearing on the Brooklyn Healthcare Crisis with New York State Assembly member Richard Gottfried will follow.

All neighbors are encouraged to participate.

Stay with Patch for updates.

Mr.McCall and Dr. Williams , before you take your vote , take a look in New York Harbor at the Statue Of Liberty. It reads Give me your tried , Your poor , Your Huddle Masses , Yearning To Breath free ,The Wretched Refuse Of Your Shore , Send These , the Homeless ,Tempest Tost To Me I , I Lift My Lamp Beside The Golden Door . Theses are just not words , we need to live theses words every day , not for us , but for are childrens , children . Brooklyn is a proud place , you should knock on are doors , we will let your in , treat you like family . Like are family at Long Island College Hospital .

I am a physician at LICH. I was born at LICH. My children were born a t LICH. My granfather, also a physician, graduated from the Long Island College Medical School over a century ago. What many people do not know is that LICH's name derives from the fact that it housed the first medical school in Brooklyn. SUNY bought the school and moved it to Flatbush many decades ago to set up what is now SUNY-Downstate. It is both ironic and sad that LICH's child-SUNY-Downstate is now about to sell off and discard it's parent. Norman Horace Greeley, M.D>

I hope to meet Dr. Norman Greeley. my own grandfather, Dr. Robert L.Dickinson of Brooklyn, came home from Europe at 18 in 1868, graduated from LICH at 20/21 and helped make the Hospital famous as a Gynaecologist, marriage counselor, & assistant to Dr. Alexander Skene.
