Is the Smith St. Bike Lane Being Neglected?

A photo of the lackluster lane was taken recently by a concerned Carroll Gardens resident.

Cyclists in and around Carroll Gardens, Red Hook and Cobble Hill have raised an eyebrow and public concerns regarding the state of the Smith Street bike lane of late.

The above photo was Tweeted by co-owner and Carroll Gardens resident Kerry Diamond in an attempt to call and 's attention to the lane's dilapidated state.

Councilman Lander responded with the suggestion that anyone with a complaint regarding the lane file it formally through 311 so that the proper authorities will be taken to task.

Which other bike lanes could use sprucing up? Tell us in the comments below!

Totally neglected. It should be repainted and protected!!! Jay Street is also a mess every day every night. Too bad the NYPD doesn't care about safety.

Jay Street especially needs a complete makeover. It's an extremely popular commuting route to the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges, but it's plagued by illegally parked vehicles constantly obstructing the bike lanes, cars making frequent illegal u-turns, and really bad pavement. The ideal solution would be to run a two-way, protected bike path down the center of Jay Street, similar to the one on Sands Street.

They should get rid of all the bike lanes and those stupid extended sidewalks.
