Williams, Lander Take Victory Lap with Rev. Sharpton

Supporters of the City Council's Community Safety Act, which passed in a session Wednesday night, took to the steps of City Hall to tout their achievement Thursday.

Joined by Rev. Al Sharpton, the group vowed to toe the line in the face of an impending mayoral veto, which Mayor Michael Bloomberg pledged after the act was passed.

At 2:30 a.m. on June 16 a 37-year-old man was walking home from a bar when he ran into two women he did not know at DeKalb and Vanderbilt avenues. The women said if the man bought them beer, they would come back to his apartment and party.

He invited both women into his apartment and became intimate with one woman, not paying attention to the other.

About 30 minutes later, after the other woman had left his apartment, he noticed his laptop, iPhone, credit card and a pair of JCrew blue suede shoes were missing from the apartment. After that, a charge was made for Greyhound line tickets to Dallas, Texas.

Meatloaf's the Name, Chopping's the Game

He builds custom motorcycles, cuts a mean fade and gives back the money he earns to help feed the homeless.

Jeffrey Scales, aka “Meatloaf Scalissa,” is just your friendly neighborhood, laid-back, round-the-way Bed-Stuy guy—nothing special, yet, special in every way.

From his barber shop, Domoliek’s Upscale Grooming Salon, located at 416 Tompkins Avenue, you’ll find Meatloaf busy at work either cutting hair, cleaning up the shop, running in and out handling a bevy of odds-and-ends, or just sitting quietly out front chatting with his neighbors.

Council Votes to Increase NYPD Oversight, Crossing Bloomberg

The City Council approved the Community Safety Act Wednesday night, which aims to change the way the New York Police Department does business, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg is not happy about it.

The package of bills in question, spearheaded by council members Brad Lander and Jumaane Williams, would establish an Inspector General for the NYPD, and give those stopped by police more latitude to bring discrimination lawsuits.
