Why go: BGI holds monthly clean-ups along the Columbia Street section of the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway. Tools and gloves provided, all ages welcome.

In case of rain, please call BGI’s office at 718.522.0193 after 8:30AM on Saturday. If the clean-up has been cancelled, there will be an outgoing message to that effect. If there is no message, the clean-up is still on.

When/Where: Saturday, January 14, 9 p.m. at Grand Army Plaza

Cost: FREE

Why go: Join TimesUp! and discover Prospect Park at night. The Prospect Park Moonlight Ride is opened to bikers and skilled skaters. This is a safe, peaceful ride that visits many of the little-known treasures the park has to offer.

Rain at 8:45 pm cancels the ride, period. Snow is good! If you want to race, this is NOT the ride for you. The ride is at night, and it gets dark amongst all the trees in Prospect Park, so bring your favorite bike -- the one with lights.

When/Where: Sunday, January 15, 3 p.m. at Brooklyn Museum

Cost: FREE

Why go: WNYC's Brian Lehrer and political journalist Jami Floyd will lead a discussion with Brown v. Board of Ed plaintiff John A. Stokes, historians, academics, education experts, and cultural critic Touré about the “evolution of the civil rights struggle around education since King’s time, and what’s left to be done in education reform,” according to a news release from WNYC.

In addition, there will also be a performance by folk/blues songwriter Toshi Reagon, a tap performance from the Manhattan Theatre Lab and its ninth grade chorus, and short tribute speeches to Dr. King from the Manhattan Country School eighth graders. It’s free and open to the public, but you must make a reservation here.

When/Where: Sunday, January 15, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at Brooklyn Borough Hall

Cost: FREE

Why go: As many as 75 vendors of “all things wedding” will offer products, fashions and services to anyone — gay or straight — interested in weddings, special occasions, giftware or just an opportunity to experience the grandeur of Borough Hall.

Vendors from all across Brooklyn, seminars on investments and legal issues will be offered to attendees and the Expo will also feature travel agents as well as wedding planners and a host of related goods and services.
