Christmas in April on Smith Street

The film "New Years Eve" takes over the block

Sarah Jessica Parker had traffic stopped on Smith Street Thursday night. The only moving vehicle was a horsedrawn carriage with the Sex and the City star sitting in it.

The length of Smith Street from a few blocks below Atlantic Avenue and all the way down to Carroll Park looked like the clock had been turned back on it. Since the beginning of the week changes started to take place in preparation for Garry Marshall's film "New Years Eve," which was filming a crucial scene on the street.

Holly boughs lined shops, holiday lights were stringed up and the Christmas lights hanging over Smith Street each holiday season were back up.

We heard the locations set manager said this was the most complicated shoot she'd ever staged. Indeed, the block between Douglass and Degraw streets, where much of the action was filmed, was turned from , to a pretty holiday scene.

In the movie, a fictional pizzaria has burned down. The site is on the corner of Smith and Degraw streets, which has been a vacant lot for some time now.
