Cops Nab Burglar at Court Street Grocers

A man was arrested after he was caught breaking into Court Street Grocers early in the morning on Sept. 21, police said.

At 5 a.m., police received a call saying a man was seen forcing his way into the front door of the building. Officers were two blocks away at the time of the call, responded and confirmed the break-in. 

Bette Midler Helps Celebrate Renovation of Gowanus Garden

New York Restoration Project (NYRP) recently completed the renovation of its Gil Hodges Community Garden in Gowanus with support from Jo Malone London and a New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Green Infrastructure Grant. 

The transformation turns the space into the first NYRP community garden with high-performance stormwater infrastructure. 

Ribbon Cut at New Eileen C Dugan Senior Center

Earlier this summer, the Eileen C Dugan Senior Center at 380 Court Street in Carroll Gardens reopened. On Thursday, the ribbon was cut to celebrate the reopening.

The American Italian Coalition of Organizations (AMICO) now operates the center. City Councilman Brad Lander was at the ribbon cutting and tweeted from the event. 

October Community Council Meeting to Be Held in Red Hook

The next 76th precinct community council meeting, usually held the first Tuesday of every month at the precinct, will be held at a new venue.

The meeting will take place Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Joseph Miccio Community Center, 110 West 9th Street. In order to make sure all communities within the precinct are included, the precinct is trying to be more judicious in meeting places.
