BoCoCa Has Some of Brooklyn's Best Blocks, Says L Magazine

Carroll Gardens and it's surrounding neighborhoods got a nod from the magazine for their unique blocks.

The L Magazine recently rounded up their (completely subjective) 50 Best Blocks in Brooklyn list, and the BoCoCa-area got a few shout-outs for great reasons – happily dodging the “Worst-Smelling Block” and “Worst Block to Live On” categories.

Court Street, between Kane and Baltic in Cobble Hill was honored as “Best Foodie Block,” boasting , , and , says the magazine.

First Place, between Court and Smith in Carroll Gardens was dubbed “Block Most Likely to Stay the Same for the Next Decade,” mostly for being bookended by and the Saraceno Funeral Home.

Dean Street, between Hoyt and Bond in Boerum Hill won “Most Literary Block,” as the home of L.J. Davis and John Mortimer (very nearby is the childhood home of Jonathan Lethem, as well as Isaac Asimov’s home for a year). For some reason, the L Magazine points out that actress Michelle Williams resides on this block, reasoning that she starred in the movie adaptation of Ethan Hawke’s “The Hottest State.”

Nearby Red Hook gets a nod from the the magazine, as well, pointing out the interesting layout of Dikeman Street, between Richards and Dwight, whose houses set back from the sidewalk suggest that they were build before the street was.

Van Brunt Street, between Pioneer and Visitation, also in Red Hook gets the honor of “Best Block for a Date,” with a seafood dinner at Kevin’s, and a stop at unpretentious dive bars Bait & Tackle and the Brooklyn Ice House.
