Community Corner
Blocks Left Unplowed
As of Wednesday afternoon, how the streets of Boerum/Cobble/Carroll look.
After a pretty exhaustive walk through the three neighborhoods that make up our Patch, we found many streets plowed, some partially plowed and others still completely untouched.
But while unplowed roads are burdensome, what seems to be most treacherous and messy are the street corners. Businesses and homes on corners may shovel their sidewalks, but the parts of the sidewalks leading to the crosswalks are still filled with snow. And with the sun today, and foot traffic, the snow has turned to slushy water. This reporter, even with boots on, ended up with two drenched feet!
A quick call to 311 found that it is the responsibility of the business or homeowner to completely shovel the sidewalks, all the way to the street, and the responsibility of the Department of Sanitation to plow the streets and make sure the crosswalks are accessible.
