Showdown at LICH: NYPD Brought in to Stop Patient Transfer

In a bold move that blatantly ignores court orders, SUNY Downstate officials relocated patients, transferred employees and planned to shut down all services at Long Island College Hospital back in June.

The plan sparked rumors that the hospital was closing, and those rumors were confirmed by NYSNA. Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, however, secured a new temporary restraining order against SUNY and the Department of Health that would prevent them from closing the hospital. A crowd gathered at the hospital and de Blasio served the restraining order which stopped the patient transfer and rerouting of hospitals.
