The Total Atlantic Avenue Immersion

Free half-pints, discounts and more at the first Brooklyn Based beer crawl of the season.

Beer lovers, shoppers and everyone else who didn't get raptured had two great reasons to hang out on Atlantic Avenue this past Saturday: sunshine and the Atlantic Avenue Immersion.

Modeled after last year's Franklin Street Immersion in Greenpoint, Saturday's event was the first of a summer series created by Brooklyn Based in partnership with Brooklyn Brewery.

Up and down the mile-long crawl, discounts were offered by all sorts of local vendors; Betty Bakery offered $1 off red velvet cupcakes, Steven Alan took 20% off purchases at the men’s store and new women’s store, and Two 8 Two Bar and Burger gave away free bottles of Brooklyn Brewery Local 1 to every table. Free half-pints of Brooklyn Brewery’s Weiss, IPA, Pennant and Lager were handed out at Last Exit, The Brazen Head, The Roebling Inn and the Waterfront Alehouse to the early birds who picked up the free Immersion card at 11 a.m.

Through promotions and discounts, the Immersions are not just a way for shops, bars and restaurants to promote goods; they also entice folks to come check out the neighborhood. Besides being a beer crawl, they're a "way to immerse people in a specific neighborhood in Brooklyn," said Brooklyn Based publisher Nicole Davis.

"We often publish day trips and guides to neighborhoods.... this was basically taking something that we do online and making it a real, live experience." said Davis.

On Saturday, Last Exit had a full house, with patrons spilling out onto the sunny patio, enjoying their half pints.

"I've done a bunch of the Brooklyn Based events and I've found that they're always really fun and organized," said Christopher Fruendt, husband of Lindsey Gamble, owner of Carroll Gardens custom cake shop Elegantly Iced.

"This is our neighborhood, so it's fun to go to a lot of the places that we always go to, for special deals," he said with a laugh. "It's great to see everybody out and enjoying the gorgeous day today."

Upcoming Immersions are happening on Smith Street on June 18th, 4th Avenue on July 16, and Vanderbilt Avenue in August. For more info, visit Brooklyn Based.
