5 Things To Do Today: Commit Random Act of Kindness, Enjoy Hot Winter Romp

Carroll Gardens-area subway, alternate side and event information you won't want to miss.

1. Commit a random act of kindness. Today is National Random Acts of Kindness Day in the United States, a day when people are encouraged to perform any type of good deed for no reason. Hold a door open. Give a stranger a compliment. Fetch your assistant some coffee. Pet your dog. The time is now, the location is everywhere, and pay it forward if someone is kind to you.

2. Encourage junior to be dramatic. Let kids explore the jubilant energy of imagination in a supportive and nurturing environment as they delve into story-telling, song and creative movement in classes for the youngest of thespians. Ocean Adventures Acting Classes at Area Yoga, 320 Court Street at Sackett Street, 3:15 p.m., $27.

3. Enjoy a hot winter romp. Doldrums got you down? Wipe away those tears and put on your good shoes for A Hot Winter Romp in Gowanus, an evening of drinking and dancing, hosted by Overflow Magazine and the bloggers of The Skint. Littlefield, Degraw Street between Third and Fourth Avenues, 9 p.m., $7.

4. Find out if your train is running ... The F and G trains are running normally this week, but will be skipping Smith-9th St, 15th St-Prospect Park and Fort Hamilton Parkway, according to the MTA.

5. ... And if you have to move your car. Yes. Alternate side parking is in effect, according to the NYCDOT.
