241 Carroll Street Demo Nears Completion

The brownstone that suffered a collapse earlier in the month has been almost entirely removed.

The demolition of 241 Carroll Street is nearing completion, after rendered the structure unlivable.

In the early morning hours of Monday, July 2, a wall on the East side of the four-story brownstone between Court and Smith Streets became compromised. Miraculously, no one was hurt during the collapse. Since then, however, multiple and the structure has been undergoing .

The collapse is believed to have been caused by a lack of lateral support after an abutting building was removed in the 1950s to make room for . No word yet on when construction will begin to replace the brownstone.
