‘A Flash of Cobalt Blue’ is Ines Velasco’s debut big band album. The project is a collaboration with award-winning Mexican poet Jorge Esquinca, and is directly inspired by the poetry of his book ‘Descripción de un brillo azul cobalto’ (‘Description of a flash of cobalt blue’).
The book travels between past and present, navigating the Pacific coast of Mexico and wandering through the streets of Paris, blending memory with imagination, and sorrow with affection. Jorge’s recorded voice will also be featured as an integral part of the composition themselves.
This evening will premiere the music written for this project for a 17-piece band before recording it in the studio.&nbsp;

Park Slope Windsor Terrace Artists Open Studios

On May 4 and 5: The Park Slope Windsor Terrace Artists are excited to invite you to visit our annual Spring Open Studios located throughout the lively neighborhoods bordering Prospect Park and Greenwood Cemetery. See sculpture, ceramics, paintings, collage and photography by artists living and working in Park Slope, Greenwood Heights and Windsor Terrace.
In addition to the 19 artists who are opening their studios, Ossam Gallery at 300 7th Street will host 13 artists in their main floor gallery space. Several artists will be exhibiting their work at the 6/15 garden on Fifth Avenue and 15th street, coinciding with their Spring Festival on May 4th.

THE OMNI ENSEMBLE CONCLUDES ITS 41st SEASON AT THE BROOKLYN CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC WITH A PROGRAM OF WOODWIND QUINTET MUSIC
The OMNI Ensemble is pleased to announce the conclusion of its 41st season at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music
on Saturday evening, May 4, 2024 at 8:00 pm. Music Director/Flutist David Wechsler will host an evening of wind quintet music featuring J.S. Bach’s Concerto in D after Vivaldi, transcribed by Mordechai Rechtman, Franz Danzi’s Quintet in G minor, György Ligeti’s Six Bagatelles, Samuel Barber’s Summer Music, 
and David Wechsler’s Impromptu For Spring.
Performing musicians include David Wechsler - flutes, Jeffrey Reinhardt – oboe, Jeffrey Adler – clarinet, Atsuko Sato – bassoon, and Jasmine Lavariega – horn. 

Continuing as the chamber music group in residence at the Brooklyn Conservatory, the OMNI Ensemble will continue to perform concerts of enormous variety all designed to provide their audience with a musical diversity not ordinarily encountered by one chamber music group. Throughout the season they perform in the recital hall at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. 
Tickets at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music are $25.00, $15.00 for students and senior citizens and $10.00 for the live stream. Tickets are available in advance on the 
OMNI Ensemble website or at the door prior to the performance.

The OMNI Ensemble is a chamber music created to perform programs of enormous variety, with music ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st
century, including Western classical music, jazz, and electronic and improvised music, all designed to provide their audience with a musical experience not ordinarily encountered in a single music event. Since its inception in 1983 the group has featured many guest artists including multi instrumentalist/composer David Amram, performance artist John Kelley, Singer Erika Banks, Kumongo player Jin Hi Kim, Saxophonist Roy Nathanson, Mezzo Sopranos Catherine Ciesinski and Charlotte Hellekant, Harpsichordists Gerald Ranck and Rebecca Pechefsky, and keyboardist Marco Benevento. The group has commissioned works by David Lang, Lee Hyla, Allen Shearson, &amp; Michael Bushnell, and performed new pieces by Jim Lahti, Eric Klein, David Wechsler, and John Cheek 
This concert is made possible, in part with funds from the New York City Dept. of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council, The New York State Council on the Arts.
