Teachers Union Will Bus Parents to Charter Vote Meeting

The UFT will bus parents and protestors to the DOE meeting tonight, where Success Academy will be voted on.

Opponents of the proposed Success Academy Charter in Cobble Hill where a crucial vote on the charter to a new location in Elmhurst, Queens.

Now, the United Federation of Teachers has announced it will have four buses ready to drive parents and protestors to the meeting to oppose the charter school, according to the Daily News.

“The DOE moved the PEP meeting to a site that’s inconvenient for many parents to get to,” UFT president Michael Mulgrew told the Daily News

The meeting was originally to be held at a school in midtown Manhattan, but due to construction at that school, the DOE announced two weeks ago that it would move to Newtown High School in Elmhurst, an hour away from Cobble Hill.

, asking that the meeting be moved to Brooklyn Technical High School, as much of the meeting’s agenda has to do with Brooklyn schools.

An online petition to move the meeting garnered about 300 signatures.

The DOE maintains that the chosen locations of the meetings have nothing to do with what is on the agenda.
