Raw Sewage Spills From Luxury Building in Carroll Gardens

BROOKLYN, NY -- A local apartment building unleashed a river of raw sewage onto the sidewalk on Wednesday night, just in time for unassuming families to walk through it while trick-or-treating.

At around 7:30 p.m. some Carroll Gardens residents noticed that the sidewalk all around the intersection of Smith Street and 2nd Place was flooded with brackish water, toilet paper, condoms and other unpleasantness. The worst part, one told Patch, was that most people on the street couldn't see it due to the darkness.

"It’s all over the street, so every time a car goes by you can see," said the resident, who lives around the corner and preferred to remain anonymous. "What was horrifying to me was that most of the parents didn’t realize what they were walking through. All of these little kids in costumes were tromping through this sewage." 

The liquid was allegedly pouring out of a drain from the 7-story building at 360 Smith Street. The tipster said he told tenants in the building and they in turn said they would call the super. But after an hour, the sludge was still spewing forth.

"It’s 100% raw. You name it, it’s there," he said. "It’s just disgusting."

Another neighbor, Loretta Gendville, also spotted the sewage and sent in images to Carroll Gardens Patch.

Calls by Patch to the Department of Environmental Protection to determine whether the incident had been reported received no response.
