Boerum Hill High School Choir to Sing with Broadway Stars

Choir singers from Brooklyn High School of the Arts will perform at the 125th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty.

Choir singers from Brooklyn High School of the Arts will get a chance to perform songs from the musical “Liberty” with Broadway stars Esther Stilwell (“Priscilla Queen of the Desert”) and Lewis Grosso (“Mary Poppins”), at the National Park Service’s celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty on October 28, according to BroadwayWorld.com.

The students from Brooklyn High School of the Arts won the choir competition, "Public Schools Sing LIBERTY 125!", and will perform the song “Huddled Masses” from the musical at Liberty Island during the main ceremony.

The musical, “Liberty,” according to BroadwayWorld.com, is the story of a French immigrant named Liberty who arrives in the U.S. in 1884 “amid anti-foreigner fervor.”

Acording to the article, the Boerum Hill students have previously won the 2009 Gold Medal and 2010 Gold Medal with Distinction Level VI from the New York State School Music Association Festival, The Heritage Festival in Boston, Mass., and The National Chorale High School Choral Invitational, Region 8 Arts Festival.

The Brooklyn High School of the Arts is one of the schools being considered to house Success Charter Network’s newest K-8 charter school, which has made many local parents worried about overcrowding.
