Idlewild Bookstore Opens in Cobble Hill

The foreign-language bookstore originated in Manhattan, and recently opened their first Brooklyn outpost.

You won’t find any books in English at the new Idlewild bookstore in Cobble Hill (it opened last week), but you will find French, Spanish, and Italian books to complement the foreign language classes offered next door, according to Racked NY.

The report says that Idlewild originated in the Manhattan’s Flatiron District with the idea to provide “lots of literary backup” for those learning foreign languages.

According to their web site, the flagship bookstore was founded in 2008 by a former United Nations press officer. Idlewild was the original name of the New York International Airport, later renamed JFK in the 60s.
