Fireball Will Explode Off Of Union Street, Say Police

Representatives of the NYC Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment have just alerted Patch that the production shooting in the neighborhood tomorrow is the new FX series The Americans, a cold war-era drama starring Keri Russel and Matthew Rhys.

"New York City offers productions the opportunity to bring their scripts to life on the streets of New York," said Marybeth Isle, press secretary for The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. "[We] work with the community to ensure that productions run smoothly while they’re filming on location, and FDNY and NYPD are always present during these sequences to ensure the safety of those involved. These stunts come at a time when the local industry employs 130,000 New Yorkers and contributes $7 billion to the City’s economy."

Movie lovers, pyro geeks and any other curious spectators available Wednesday evening can witness a fireball exploding off of Union Street as part of a television shoot, according to a police announcement.

The NYPD released the following statement on Monday afternoon:

On Wednesday, Feb. 13 between 6pm - 9pm on Union Street, between Hicks and Columbia Streets... there will be a controlled explosion with a fireball effect for a television production company.

Members of the FDNY and officers of the 76th Precinct will be present.
