Distracted Shoppers Become Victims of Theft at IKEA

The 76 Precinct reported two recent incidents at the Red Hook home decor store.


Two Brooklyn residents became the victims of thieves prowling inside the Red Hook IKEA home furnishings store, according to police reports.

On Saturday, April 6 at 5:20 p.m. an individual mistakenly left a wallet containing $650 at IKEA. Upon returning to the home decor store, the wallet had been turned in to security but without any money inside of it. The victim is male, 35.

Approximately 24 hours later, on Sunday, April 7 at 5:30 p.m. a shopper left a purse unattended while perusing various products. The handbag was later found by security, cops said. But upon retrieving the item, the victim stated that $500 in cash was missing from inside. The victim is female, 38.
