Diane Ravitch To Discuss NY School Reform in Cobble Hill

The bestselling author will be speaking at PS 29 on Tuesday, January 10.

Diane Ravitch will be discussing her newest bestseller, The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education, tommorrow evening at in Cobble Hill (425 Henry Street), less than three blocks away from the . 

Ravitch is a noted historian of education and author of ten books on education in the United States. She was the Assistant Secretary of Education from 1991 to 1993, and a member of the National Assessment Governing Board from 1997 to 2004. She is currently Research Professor of Education at NYU. 

Ravitch's newest book criticizes privitization, standardized testing, and charter schools, among countless other popular restructuring methods for schools in the United States. The Death and Life of the Great American School System: How Testing and Choice Are Undermining Education illustrates a distinct change in opinion from Ravitch's former works, and offers several ideas for how to improve the school system.

Ravitch will be the inaugural speaker of a lecture series on education at PS 29.

According to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Ravitch will be discussing current school reforms in New York City, and is asking the audience to read the epilogue of the paperback copy of her book prior to her speech.  She will be taking questions.
