The Council for Community and Economic Research recently measured the cost of the professional standard of living in 307 urban areas, and for the 5th year in a row, found Brooklyn as the second most expensive city to live in in the United States, Yahoo News reports.
The index crunched more than 50,000 prices—everything from home prices to the cost of gas to the average cost of a bottle of wine—and found that the borough of Brooklyn consistently ranked amongst the most expensive in the country.
Though a half-gallon of milk would cost you less in Brooklyn than in Harlingen, Tex., which ranks as America's most affordable city, Brooklynites pay nearly three times more for haircuts, the news site reports.
Unsurprisingly, Manhattan, New York, maintains the top spot as as the most expensive place to live in the U.S., with a cost of living index that is more than double the national average.
Honolulu, Hawaii ranks third; San Francisco, Calif. ranks fourth; and Queens, N.Y. ranks sixth.
